July 11-13, 2008
Do you need custom-built software? Apply for the Give Camp! We are currently accepting proposals from non-profit organizations until June 7, 2008.

During the Give Camp, software developers will donate their time to create custom software for non-profit organizations. This custom software could be a new website for the nonprofit organization, a small data-collection application to keep track of members, or an application for the Red Cross that automatically emails a blood donor three months after they’ve donated blood to remind them that they are now eligible to donate again. The only limitation is that the project should be scoped to be able to be completed in a weekend.

A previous Give Camp in Dallas served 18 nonprofits. The local developer community, in partnership with Microsoft, would like to offer one in the Ann Arbor area the weekend of July 11-13. (Note that non-profits organizations in the greater Detroit area will be considered also.)

All source code will be turned over at the end of the weekend, but your non-profit organization is responsible for maintaining it. A representative from your organization will also be required to be present at the Friday kickoff meeting and the Sunday wrapup meeting, at minimum. But you are welcome to attend as much of the event as possible – the charities that are usually happiest with their software at the end of the weekend are the ones who were present more often to provide feedback to the developers.

In addition, Verio is offering to donate two years of free website hosting to non-profits who need it.
